When you’re on the road as a trucker, you’re careful about letting your eyes leave the road. Accidents happen so quickly that you don’t have time to react if you’re not watching. Collisions aren’t the only hazards of driving for long hours, but thankfully, most of the other problems are also preventable if you take these steps.
Sitting all day is not good for your health, since humans did not evolve to live sedentary lifestyles. To combat your hours of sitting while completing your hopper bottom jobs, make sure to get in a good workout every day that you’re home and before you leave on a job. Combine cardio such as biking or running with strength training, which you can complete with weights or your own body weight. Whenever you stop to refuel or use the bathroom, walk around the rest area for a few minutes and do some quick stretches. These actions combat weight gain, cardiovascular problems, and other serious health issues.
Your eyes require care just like all the other parts of your body, and the sun’s glare on other cars and the road is damaging. Always wear polarized sunglasses during the daylight hours, particularly sunrise and sunset. Don’t forget to take them off when sunset is over, though.
It’s tempting to grab a fast food dinner when you’re hungry, but eating out every day quickly leads you to gain weight and have problems with your heart. Pack healthy dinners that are easy to eat before you leave, and include lots of fruits and vegetables. Add some snacks, too, and don’t be afraid to treat yourself once in a while. Just make sure that the majority of what you eat is healthy.
